Leslee Unruh loves babies, hates women

ThinkProgress (thanks Feministing!) has a video with lunatic Leslee Unruh calling Lybrel, the new birth control pill that allows women to stop having periods, a “pesticide.”

I have mixed feelings about my period and about Lybrel. But women have been using the birth control pill to stop having periods already by skipping the placebo pills and starting a new pack.  When NARAL’s Mary Alice Carr points out that some women have very difficult periods, Unruh says that’s a lie and continues ranting that a woman’s fertility is something to celebrate.

I don’t feel like celebrating when I’m bloated, crampy and headachy. As many as 95 percent of women suffer symptoms related to PMS. Five percent of women experience severe symptoms  and 14 percent of women reported missing school or work because of PMS. I don’t know if Lybrel is for me but I have the presence of mind to know that I don’t get to make that decision for all women everywhere. Unruh, who has a history of paying pregnant women to carry children to term, doesn’t.
